Antique Tiger Oak Carved Arm Chair North Wind Face Ornate Original Finish Vintage. Rare Antique Tiger Oak North Wind Victorian Era Vintage Stomps Burkhardt Chair. Solid tiger oak, quarter sawn arm chair.

Also called face chair, barrel chair or saddle chair. Hand carved north wind face on the entire back side to side! Beautiful tiger oak on legs, seat, arms, everywhere.

This style along with gothic face chairs was very popular during the late Victorian era. North wind was suppose to blow evil spirits away.

Many of these chairs were tossed in the attic, stored in the basement or destroyed as the face chair lost popularity in the early 20th century. Gracefully curved arms and seat. Dark wood with excellent tiger oak grain. Mom made the black velvet cushion where only a porcelain doll ever sat there. Would look simply astonishing in any living or dining room. This chair is originally from Lowell, Mass. And was brought to Oregon and stayed here since late 1950's. Please see pictures for detailed description. Any questions please feel free to ask.
