Antique Personal Box Travelling Secretary Desk Rd. 173368 With Key Amazing

Here is what I know about this stunning piece of history. I moved one of the nicest men into an assisted living facility.

Sadly he has no family alive. When I moved him in I asked him what he wanted to do with his entire house full of belongings. He offered me a deal. He is so fantastic I would have visited regardless of the deal he made me. He is in his 90's currently so you can imagine the items he gave me.

This ink box is one of them. It is missing one small piece of wood on the top right edge. I have not been able to locate it and my client does not remember where it is.

He said this belonged to his father. His father came from England so he assumes he got it there.

It makes sense because on the lock mechanism it has a crown with its patent numbers. This comes with the original glass in well, the original leather binding and the original letter opener.

I also have the key. The lock works, however it is difficult to lock it. I think some minimal warping has occurred over time. The leather has a couple of tears along the edges.

I tried to research this a little more, but there is not much information on this. The top center says Rd.
